The Heart of San Bruno
The Heart of San Bruno campaign was created to honor the people and places that give the city of San Bruno its warmth and character.
This video highlights the merchants of downtown San Bruno—hardworking locals who show up every day to serve the community they love—while also celebrating the broader story of our city: its culture, its resilience, and the bonds that connect us.
We hope it inspires you to visit, support, and rediscover the vibrant heart that beats right here at home.

A Living Legacy
San Bruno’s Natural History
For years, the wall at 568 San Mateo Avenue was blank. Today it holds a red-tailed hawk, a gray fox, a California quail, and a coast iris — all of them native to San Bruno, painted at life scale by muralist Julie Engelmann.
This mural was a labor of love. It was funded by San Bruno t-shirt sales, pop-up fundraisers, and neighbors who gave what they could. It was built by people who believed in its vision.
Take a stroll through downtown San Bruno explore San Mateo Avenue and experience this beautiful mural in person.
A Living Legacy tee

Help Shape the Future of Downtown San Bruno
We’re just getting started and your voice matters. Take our short community survey and tell us what you think. Your feedback will help us understand how people use downtown, where additional seating could make a difference and what opportunities we should consider as we work to make downtown San Bruno more welcoming, accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

We understand that public seating can raise legitimate concerns
Appropriate use and maintenance are important considerations
Location will be carefully evaluated
We are exploring ways to work with businesses and the San Bruno Police Department
